A Second Chance

A Second Chance is a feature-length documentary from BAFTA-winning filmmaker Rex Bloomstein.

The film follows two prisoners - Tracey and David - as they embark on a revolutionary training programme from inside some of Britain’s prisons. Set up by the high-street retailer Timpson’s and spearheaded by James Timpson (former Chair of the Prison Reform Trust and now UK Prisons Minister), the programme places prisoners in training facilities with a guarantee of employment upon release.

The film challenges prevailing attitudes towards the UK criminal justice system, highlighting the benefits to society of secure work as a key component in preventing reoffending.

A Second Chance has screened in over 20 cinemas across the UK as well as prisons, universities and other institutions.

At a time when the prison system is in meltdown and reformers in despair, [A Second Chance] offers a glimpse of hope and inspiration and, above all, shows what can and should be done if we are to make headway in the battle against reoffending… This absorbing film sends the message out – quietly but clearly. The prime minister would do well to listen.
